About the event
Learn all about Indigo and its connection to Georgetown. Indigo was used for the distinctive blue British Naval uniform and was a South Carolina cash crop between 1740 and 1780. Discover more about the famous Indigo Girl, Eliza Lucas Pinckney, and learn how Indigo was essential to saving the Georgetown economy. History is blue!
All classes begin at 11:00am and end around 2:00pm and are in the cool, air-conditioned studio of the Rice Museum, on Front Street in Historic Downtown Georgetown.
There will be three different items for you to dye, and you may bring 3 small items of your own to throw in the dye vat! Our latest teacher-supplied items included sarongs, bags, pillow cases, scarves, and garden banners. We’ll be gifting indigo plant seedlings until we run out.
